AML Symptoms
A lack of healthy blood cell production in the bone marrow can cause AML symptoms.
"We are all broken and wounded in this world. Some choose to grow strong at the broken places.” Harold J. Duarte-Bernhardt
These symptoms can include:- Susceptibility to infections
- Anemia
- Fatigue
- Easy bruising
- Shortness of breath
- Paleness
- Fever
- Bone and/or joint pain
- Petechie (small red or purple spots caused by broken blood vessels)
Additionally, swelling of the spleen, and/or lymph nodes may also occur but is less common.
Occasionally leukemic cells will work their way into a person's gums and cause additional swelling. As with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, many people appear to be asymptomatic meaning that they show no evidence of the disease and are diagnosed after a complete blood test. Many people will experience one or more of the preceding symptoms within their lifetime so it's not necessary to panic and assume the worst. Anyone experiencing symptoms of ill health should simply make an appointment to see their doctor to have him/her make a diagnosis. Causes of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia are thought to include: - Chemotherapy for previous cancer treatment
- Benzene exposure
- Radiation exposure (atomic bomb survivors and people exposed to X-rays without proper protection
