- Bone Marrow Transplant
- Biological Therapy
"We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope." Martin Luther King, Jr.
Molecularly Targeted Therapy involves the introduction of substances (drugs) that target key cancerous molecules involved in cell growth for the purpose destroying them. Carin is currently using a drug called Gleevec (Imatinib) to reduce her body's over-production of platelets.Chemotherapy is probably the most common therapy available for a myriad of cancers. Chemotherapy involves the use of chemicals that have a toxic effect on the cancerous cells. Bone Marrow Transplants are the process of flushing out the patients leukemic cells with healthy cells from a marrow donor. Biological Therapy is the process of introducing drugs that stimulate the body's natural defences to cancer. Drugs like Interferon can boost the bodies immune system and slow the growth rate of cancerous cells.
